Top Knot on Natural Hair

Hey Curlies,

This week's video is a hairstyle tutorial of my top knot done on natural hair.

I posted a photo of this style about two years ago when I got m hair straightened for the first time in 2014. It looked a little different then because of the hair texture, but the idea is the same.

Since then, I've gotten a few questions on this style so I decided a quick tutorial would work.

It's a really cute, easy and quick style that can fit multiple occasions.

Big Bun Protective Style

Hey Curlies,

After six years of having natural hair, I think I found one of my signature protective styles! I was looking for something to do with my hair for work and my mind went blank.

I thought of a puff – as a last resort – but my hair was too stretched to make it work. Before I knew it, I began pinning and came up with what I call my "big bun."

This protective style was done in less than 7 minutes and required only 5 to 6 bobby pins and a headband.

This was one of the styles I couldn't sleep on because the back would be ruined by morning, but again, it's a very quick style.

I'm sure I'll be doing this again soon...maybe even a tutorial coming soon.

Natural Hair: Twisted Crown

Hey Curlies,

Just wanted to stop by again really quickly to drop some photos of my twisted crown hairstyle I've been wearing all week.

This quick style was done after African Threading my hair.

To style, I used Urbanaire Gypsy's Slayed Pomade and began lightly twisting.

African Threading Tutorial: Stretch your Natural Hair

Hey Curlies,

It has taken me days to finish but the tutorial on African Threading is here.

Again, African Threading is a great way to stretch your natural hair without heat. The process takes about 45 minutes, depending on the length of your hair. It requires thread (I used crochet thread, but you can use whatever you'd like) that is wrapped around the length of your hair, air dried, then taken down for a blowout look.

I teased my results on Instagram a few days ago:

So now that you've seen the final results, learn how to do this yourself!

I had lots and lots of footage but I had to cut out most of it for time's sake.

Natural Hair: Defined Twistout

Hey Curlies,

As promised, I have some new content of you.

I wanted to show you all the style I've been wearing for the last week or so.

Last week I washed my hair and created medium-sized twists that I wore for exactly one week. I then untwisted for a twistout.

For details on how I created those twists, click here.

Here are a couple of photos of how it all turned out:

Just three days later my hair actually looks exactly the same, only a little more frizzy.

Tomorrow I think I may take apart the twist definition and wear it in a wild fro before wash day rolls around again.

Two-Strand Twists: Embrace your Shrinkage

Hey Curlies,

Never have thought I would see the day when I actually embrace my hair shrinkage. When I first did my big chop in 2011 I had a little more than a twa. I couldn't wait for my hair to get long so I could do more styles.

Now that I've reached my hair goal – shoulder-lenth hair while curly – I actually miss this days when my twistout can look like this:

In this picture, my hair was not stretched, just a twist n curl (see my fave here).

So today I washed and conditioned my hair and simply twisted on damp hair using Urbanaire Gypsy's leave-in conditioner.

I plan on wearing these twists for at least the next week or'll hear more about them later in an upcoming video.
