ClassyCurlies.com’s 25 Days of Giving

Hey Curlies,

I’ve been doing a lot of thinking lately about how I can do more for my community and how I can use my blog as a platform to better others. For this holiday season, I’ve come up with ClassyCurlies.com’s 25 Days of Giving. From Dec. 1-25, will be strictly a time of donating to local and national charities.

natural hair giving

I have come up with four organizations to donate to and following are their mission statements:

Wigs for Kids (Dec. 1-5)
“When Children lose their hair, they don't just suffer physically. The change in their appearance can drastically undermine their self-image and sabotage their self-esteem. To help heal the pain of these struggles, Certified Cosmetic Therapist Jeffrey Paul founded Wigs for Kids, a nonprofit organization that has been serving children suffering from hair loss since 1981.”

Hear Indiana (Dec. 6-12)
“For forty years, Hear Indiana has empowered and supported families of children who are deaf or hard of hearing. We provide Hope, Education, Advocacy, and Resources to hundreds of families throughout the state of Indiana. Ninety-five percent of babies with hearing loss are born to hearing parents, and 80-90% of these families are choosing to teach their children to listen and speak.”

100 Black Men of Indianapolis (Dec.13-19)
“100 Black Men of Indianapolis, Inc is a 501(c)(3) youth development organization that was founded in 1984 and serves more than 700 Indianapolis youth each year through mentoring-based educational programs.”

United Negro College Fund (UNCF) (Dec. 20-25)
UNCF is the nation's largest and most effective minority education organization.
Since its founding in 1944, UNCF has raised more than $4.5 billion to help more than 400,000 students receive college degrees at UNCF-member institutions and with UNCF scholarships.

Over the past year I’ve learned so much about these organizations and how they impact communities on a local and national level.

Here is where you come in: For every comment posted on ClassyCurlies.com and every Instagram (@ClassyCurlies) follow during the weeks mentioned above, I will donate $1 to that organization during its spotlight week. By Dec. 25, you all will have helped make a difference to four organizations that help our youth succeed.

It only takes one comment or follow, but you can comment on any post on the site and truly help support today’s youth. Feel free to comment more than once and tell friends and family to comment and follow @ClassyCurlies on Instagram. You may also comment for several weeks which will help corresponding organizations.

I’m really excited about this and I hope you all participate! Also, this post can be commented on as well :)

4 Clip-In Extension Lines for Natural Hair

Hey Curlies,

Who says you can’t have fun with natural hair? It’s easy to go from one look to another using clip-in extensions that match your natural hair texture.
Following, I have four clip-in extension lines for natural hair as well as an idea of their price ranges. More “$” means more money. Have fun!

Clip ins for natural hair
Curlsistas.com
CurlSistas (@CurlSistas)
“Curl Sistas is committed to empowering women with natural hair through hair education, our natural hair extensions and resources needed to effectively style their hair” as stated on their website. Three units are available in different lengths and each is 100 percent premium virgin human hair and are available as wefts or clip ins. ($$$)

Heat Free Hair Movement (@HeatFreeHair)
This hair collection features natural hair clip-in sets, wigs and wefted hair. Customers shop by hair texture and are then given selections as to what type of unit they are interested in purchasing. I will say, these extensions are a bit pricey but if you plan to wear it often or daily, it may be worth it. ($$$$)

Human Hair Mart (@AllHumanHair)
This site has about every kind of hair texture available, so just beware this isn't a place dedicated to just curly textures. They do however have a good variety of weaves to choose from such as full lace wigs, short curly fros and curly Brazilian wigs. Prices vary but can be affordable. ($)

Kurly Klips (@Kurly_Klips)
If you’re looking for real “fro” type hair, this is it! I was a actually thoroughly impressed by their premium line of clip ins. Six selections are available in a variety of textures and lengths. Plus, customers can find advice for how to care for their extensions right on the site. Prices seem to be typical of the average units. ($$)

What do you think about clip in extensions for natural hair? Would you wear them?

Natural Hair: 7 Hairstyles for Thanksgiving

Hey Curlies,

It's Thanksgiving and you all know what that means.. you'll have to see family members you don't normally see on a regular basis and of course, somebody has something to say about your hair...but I have 7 hairstyles for Thanksgiving.
The foolery I saw on Facebook today...
While their comments truly don't matter, I do want you all to attend these occasions looking your best, so if you're still stumped for a hairstyle...I've got a few options for you.

If you're looking to prepare your hair tonight:

A bantu knot out may not be a bad idea if you have time on your hands. The longer you leave them in, the better they turn out. See how I got my best bantu knot out here.

If you feel like being fancy, how about a creative updo. This can be a cute pinup style or a series of small puffs. Click here to get styling details.

A twistout on stretched hair is always a good option as you get to show off some length. This is one of my favorite styles. Get details on my favorite stretched twistout here.

If it's Thanksgiving morning and you are pressed for time:

You can't go wrong with a classy high puff, great earrings and lip color. This style is very easy and takes just a couple of minutes. See my latest high puff on damp hair here.

Even if you can't flat twist or french braid, there are a variety of ways to pull off a crown. This cute protective style takes only a few bobby pins and a mean tuck and roll. Get details here.

A pack of Marley hair costs less than $5 and this could be your saving grace if it's almost time to visit relative's homes. Purchase a pack at your local beauty supply store and create a mega bun. See my latest bun.

If all else fails and you're cooking, simply rock a turban and call it a day. Below is one of my favorite ways to wear a headscarf.

Hope this helps!

Hey Curlies,

New product alert! We've got new curlformers! I'm not sure if you know this or not, but of course I have to keep you all up to date on the latest natural hair news. You can now create barrel, spiral and corkscrew curls. Previous to this, you could only create spiral curls using the hair tool.

I think this is a cool update and it gives us lots of styling options now.  There are also styling kits available.

The kit above comes with 40 long and wide Curlformers, a satin vanity bag, 2 styling hooks and application instructions.

While I have never actually used the Curlformers brand, I have used knock off versions to create very similar spiral curls. Check out a few photos below and to see more, click here.

Natural Hair: Style of the Week–High Puff

Hey Curlies,

Here is my natural hair style of the week:

This was a very eventful weekend for me. I went on a home tour with a new friend (I love HGTV), did a little shopping and even hung out with a woman I'd like to call my second mom. I still got a chance to do something to my hair.

I decided to go with a very high puff, which is easy to do and pretty stylish.

I washed my hair using Bask & Bloom's Gentle Cleanser, conditioned with TRESemme Naturals conditioner and styled with Bask & Bloom's Conditioning Hair Tonic and More Moisture Cream.

I made my puff on wet hair after applying the last two products. I then tied a scarf on for about an hour. Here were the results from this afternoon.
