Natural Hair: NYE Braidout

Hey Curlies,

I hope you all brought in the new year safe but with full of excitement for what the next 361 days (it's Jan 4) will bring! On a normal day I am usually excited about what the next 24 hours will bring but when the new year arrives that excitement jumps up even more.

For NYE I decided to wear a braidout. I haven't worn my hair out since Thanksgiving nor had I actually combed my hair since then. Yes... you read that right. The last three weeks I've washed my hair, I've been wearing wash n go buns or puffs which required no combing.

In return, I had so much shed hair when I finally did wash and detangle. Jeez! I should have taken pictures for ya'll because it was quite interesting and about a hand full of hair. But what should have I expected?

My hair needed some much TLC because I've been kind of neglecting it lately. For starters, I washed with Shea Moisture's Jamaican Black Castor Oil and then deep conditioned with Shea Moisture's Raw Shea Butter Deep Treatment Masque. In addition to the deep condition, I applied coconut oil to my scalp.

Again, detangling was hell! I used both a wide-toothed comb and my Denman brush to be sure to detangle thoroughly. From there it didn't take much to braid my hair into about eight sections. I braided with an oil mix and Shea Butter.
