Natural Hair: Mini Twists at Three Weeks

Hey Curlies,

Its been almost three weeks since I've had in my mini twist and it definitely doesn't feel like it. They have become a little frizzy at the roots, but they still look good!

I've been using a spritz mix(castor oil, purified water and herbal oil) on both my hair and scalp at both the morning and before bed.

After spritzing I add a small bit of shea butter to my edges and ends. At night I do this routine along with tying the twists into a big bun(the same way bantu knots are created) and securing with a hair pin before applying my scarf.

I plan on keeping these in at least two more weeks. I'll keep you all updated!

Natural Hair: Butters n Bars Order

Hey Curlies,

I was browsing through a few weeks ago and I found a few things my hair was just dying to have. Okay, well maybe not my hair. Maybe it's just me. Oops.

Anyway I limited myself to two items. If you aren't familiar with this site it has all kinds of natural hair and body items such as mango butter, shea butter, essential oils, hair masks and more.

This order contained:

  • Organic, unrefined shea butter
  • Original Hair Conditioning Masque
I've used both of these products before. I still have an older batch of shea butter, but it is sort of unusable. Long story short I needed a new batch. This batch actually was white.

The last time I used the hair masque was back in August if you all remember this photo:
The masque contains Rhassoul and Australian Pink Clays. Of course I'm still wearing my mini twists(hopefully for another two weeks) so I'll be doing this treatment shortly after. To see my last application click here.

ClassyCurly Motivation: #9

Hey Curlies,

I actually saw this posted a few weeks ago from a family member on Facebook and I knew it would be perfect for this occasion.

If this isn't true I don't know what is! This reminds me of when I tell people that sometimes I don't know how to relax. On my "days off" I still find something I feel needs to be done, because in my eyes I am wasting time at earning the prize.

We all would love to be our own boss, but do we truly want to put in the work that comes with it? Whether it's starting your own business, producing a show or any of the other dreams we have. I was told earlier this week that "if your dreams aren't impacting others, you need to dream bigger!" Sample and Tee Giveaway Winners

Beauty Care: Great Food for Great Skin

Hey Curlies,
Today's guest post comes from Emma who is a beauty and skin care enthusiast. Her post will lead us into the spring weather(hopefully no more snow) and help us find ways to achieve glowing skin.
By: Emma Banks

With winter on its last legs that means warm weather is right around the corner. Which means showing lots of skin, and you want to make sure that you have great skin to show! Winter always does a number on my skin and for those first few spring months I still would be embarrassed to show off my skin.
While it is important not to neglect important things like proper skin cleansing, moisturizing and sun protection, you also need to recognize that what you put into your body is just as important.
Your diet effects you in so many ways and skin health is no different. For this reason, it is important to know which foods contribute to skin's health and start consuming more of them as spring rolls around.  Here are some skin-healthy foods that you can start eating today.

This often neglected cruciferous vegetable is actually one the best things you can eat for your skin. It is packed with Vitamins C and E, which enhance the health and appearance of your skin by boosting collagen production and protecting your skin from harmful UV damage.
Vitamin E is especially helpful because it is an antioxidant. Antioxidants are agents that neutralize the oxidant effect of free radicals, which are molecules that damage collagen and cause skin dryness, fine lines and wrinkles.
Try lightly steaming a chopped up head of broccoli and drizzling it with cheddar cheese sauce. You could also consume it raw by chopping it into a salad.

Did you know that chocolate is actually good for your skin? Contrary to the myth, chocolate does a lot more good than harm for your complexion. Dark chocolate contains flavonoids, powerful antioxidants that help fight off age-inducing free radicals.
The caffeine in chocolate can even help reduce puffiness. To get the skin-boosting benefits of chocolate, consume one to three squares of 70 percent cacao dark chocolate each day.
A favorite of mine actually is chocolate covered strawberries. This way you get the flavonoids as well as the vitamin C boost from the strawberries. They also happen to be delicious which is never a bad thing. If you really are a chocoholic you can consider buying skincare products that are specially formulated with chocolate.

Water, though not exactly a food is a vital ingredient for moist, radiant skin. Water helps deliver vital food nutrients to your skin. It keeps cells moist and plump, which helps your skin look firmer and younger.
It also flushes away toxins that can cause skin breakouts. By drinking more water, not only do you help your skin look better, but you also reduce the likelihood of new or recurring breakout. Fill up a large container with cold water, and sip on it throughout the day. People say that 8 cups of water a day is a healthy amount.
What I like to do is break these cups up into blocks and set timers on my phone. This way I have no excuse for getting off of track and get the proper amount. Also if you want to boost the toxin-flushing effect, add the juice of one freshly squeezed lemon.

With these handy diet tips in your arsenal, you are well on your way to having skin that glows. Try consuming more of these foods every day, and you should start noticing results in a few weeks.
Also keep in mind that beauty also comes from within. Be sure to have a positive attitude and wear a smile every day. Have fun while working your way to healthier, more attractive skin and you surely will see results.

Natural Hair Product Review: L.A.C.E. Rhassoul & Bentonite Clay Shampoo Bar

Hey Curlies,

I have been experimenting with shampoo bars lately, and I actually prefer them to traditional shampoos. This shampoo bar comes from Ladies Always Create Excitement and is priced at $6 on their website.

What it Contains:

Distilled Water, Coconut Oil, Palm Oil, Olive Oil, Sunflower Oil, Avocado Oil, Sodium Hydroxide (Lye), Aloe Butter, Castor Oil, Rhassoul Clay, Bentonite Clay, Amla Powder, Honey and Essential Oil Blend for Fragrance

What it Claims to do:

Clarify hair and skin without stripping natural oils

To cleanse both hair and skin

My Review:

As of today I've used this shampoo bar a number of times, probably three or four. I can say that with continuous use of this bar, I haven't experienced any dandruff or scalp dryness. I truly think it has something to do with the combination of all-natural products.

Contrary to the photo color, my product was actually brown. There is a disclaimer on the product description that the color may be darker or lighter depending upon the batch made.

Many shampoo bars do not lather well, but this one certainly does. I only needed to wash one time to be sure that my scalp was clean. My hair was left shiny and moisturized even before applying any conditioner.

The only drawback of this product is that the color runs off of the soap. The first time I used this my shower had a slight brown stain which removed easily. If you can get past this part, this shampoo bar is great!

Overall I give this bar a 4 out of 5. Again, for more details visit the site.

Natural Hair: Mini Twist Protective Style

Hey Curlies,

As promised, I have installed a new set of mini twists. The entire process from wash to my last twist was about six hours, which was record time for me.

To wash my hair I used L.A.C.E's Rhassoul and Bentonite clay shampoo bar. To deep condition I used Chi Shine Intense Silk Hair Masque. This product isn't owned by me, I borrowed it from a friend.

Blow drying my hair also took up an hour and a half of the process. After washing my hair in my normal two sections, I broke each section down into four sections to blow dry. Using medium heat on high I used the tension method to get the job done.

I began twisting using the same sections I blow dried in. I used Wonder Curl's Butter Than Love to create my twists.

I plan on keeping them in at least until the second or third week of April, but we'll see. My next big hair style will be getting my hair flat ironed for the first time in 4 years. I have to show off for my graduation!

Have a great day everyone!

Natural Hair: Mini Twists Soon

Natural Hair: Heatless Curls (Curlformers)

Hey Curlies,

I finally got around to washing my hair after being attacked by a cold. I decided on a curlformers set because I haven't done one in a while. Here are the products I used for my wash day:

  • Rhassoul and Bentonite Clay shampoo bar by L.A.C.E
  • Conditioned with Organic Root Stimulator's Replenishing Conditioner
Before hand I spritzed my hair with a oil/water mix and detangled with a wide-toothed comb. I let the curlformers sit in overnight to dry and here were my results:

Natural Hair: Road Block

Hey Curlies,

These last 48 hours have been interesting. I seemed to have acquired a head cold within a few days. This has ruined not only my wash day plans but my weekend plans in general. I am beginning to feel better so maybe tomorrow I can go for it.

My hair has been in the same style for 2 weeks (if this isn't a crime, idk what is...)(with the exception of my mini twists).
This is how I've been looking the last two weeks. Minus the scarf, that's currently.

Anyway, here are a few of my upcoming plans:

  • Wash and deep condition
  • Curl formers set
I also just ordered new items from! Can't wait till they come. On the beauty note, I have a new skin care line review for you all.
