Natural Hair Product Review: Shea Moisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil

Hey Curlies,

Today I am going to give my first impression of the Shea Moisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil line. I've used the products twice within the last two weeks and I wanted to share my opinion. I do not have the entire line, I am missing the leave in conditioner and the hair lotion, but I will go through the products I have individually.

Shea Moisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Shampoo:

I actually like this shampoo. For one, the entire line smells like a mix of Shea butter and vanilla. I'm not sure what raw Jamaican Black Castor Oil smells like but maybe that's the scent I'm smelling. This product lathers up really well and even after two weeks of use (two wash days total), I haven't even put a dent in the bottle. Because it is a clarifying shampoo, it cleansed my scalp really well. This also may be because of the apple cider vinegar the product is made with.

Shea Moisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Masque:

This hair treatment is a little more watery than the others I've tried. The Raw Shea Butter and Anti-Breakage Masques seem to be a tad thicker. This quality does help in the application process but be aware if you are looking for a thicker deep conditioner this may be different than what you expect. I have also used this product twice but I have put quite a dip in it. I'm about half way through since I use a lot because of my thick hair. I'm not sure of the effectiveness of this product yet because treatments usually take a while, so I will have more on this later!

Shea Moisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Edge Treatment:

I think that naming this product an "edge treatment" was genius. We, our community, has so many gels and edge controls on the shelves, we don't have anything catered to treating and promoting growth for our edges. On the product label it says it is also great for laying down edges, but I haven't experienced that so much. I haven't experienced much hold from this product, like a gel would, but I think it works really well as a treatment to help promote growth. This product also has an interesting consistency. It's basically an oil, but in a gel form. Because of this I normally only use a very small amount because it's enough.

Shea Moisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Hair Serum:

I've used this oil in two different ways: as a pre-poo and while styling my hair. This product seems to have a good amount of quality oils and seems to be very lightweight.

Check back after my one month usage of these products to read the final review!
