Naturally Curly Hair Care: How Humidity Affects Hair

Hey Curlies,

It has been extremely hot outside everyday for the last two weeks. I know that you're probably like "duh Victoria, its the summer" lol, but its honestly been about 90 for two weeks and my hair doesn't like it. Along with the heat came the humidity and turned my perfectly good twist out into a huge fro lol.
My day started off on the left side and ended on the right
March 2012

So how exactly does humidity affect hair?

Humidity is used when describing how much water vapor is in the air. We all know that when you have a banging twist out or braid out, the last thing you want to hear about is "water" anything.

When the weather is humid, those water vapor/molecules are absorbed into the hair and causes frizzy and puffy hair. In a sense, it's very similar to those of you who use a hair steamer.

What can you do to help protect your hair?
