Lots of women tend to plan their workouts around their hair schedules. This should not happen. If you feel that a workout is necessary you should not think of your hair first.
This is a huge reason why African American women are overweight, because they have a fear of "sweating their hair out." With natural hair, working out is a breeze and you shouldn't think twice. There are a few things to remember when working out.
- It's best to wear your hair off of your shoulders. If you have shoulder length or longer hair, it will just make you warm. Try a bun or high ponytail.Twist and braids are also a good idea
- There are many places that you can buy headbands and accessories to keep your hair in place
- Before your workout add conditioner to your hair. Add enough to coat, but not enough to drip. This will keep your hair soft and moisturized against the sweat that can be very drying
- After the workout, rinse your hair in warm water to open up the cuticle. Do your normal wash routine and rinse with cool water
- Always deep condition after, if you have the time
- If you are not produce a lot of perspiration or do not want to wash everyday, simply wear a satin scarf or sweatband. Pile your hair on top of your head. Afterward, use a natural astringent on a cotton ball and clean your scalp. Then use an oil to replenish moisture
The perspiration that is created during your workout is very salty and can be very drying to your hair. That is why it is best to take special care of it before and after.
Working out and overall health should be number one on your list. Steer clear of NOT working out because of your hair. Don't let that be an excuse.
